During the March 17th Town Council Policies & Priorities Committee meeting Doug Wagstaff, Director of Community Services, brought forward the need to replace the existing Sunshine Bus with a newer vehicle. He cited two reasons for the replacement: maintaining the existing 2004 vehicle was becoming costly and the layout of the current van was not meeting the needs of the current riders who are seniors, some with mobility issues. During his presentation Director Wagstaff suggested an alternative vehicle type that would meet the needs of the riders both now and into the future.
Since the replacement cost for a more suitable vehicle was greater than the 2014 budget allocation Town staff are looking at alternatives such as used or surplus vehicles. After some discussion and questions of Director Wagstaff, Town Council passed a motion to accept the information provided.
During the March 24th Town Council meeting a motion was passed to proceed with the purchase of a replacement vehicle not to exceed $80,000.00.
